Darren B. Casey, President and Founder

After graduating from Texas State University in 1981, Darren Casey began his real estate career.  In 1983, Mr. Casey joined Henry S. Miller Company focusing on downtown office redevelopment.  Mr. Casey joined the San Antonio office of Cushman & Wakefield in 1984. Through his involvement in some of the city’s largest transactions and corporate relocations, he became one of the leading real estate specialists in the San Antonio marketplace and was named Top Producer for San Antonio as well as the Texas region for several years.  In 1992, Mr. Casey purchased the San Antonio office of Cushman & Wakefield and founded Baxter Southwest Corporate Realty Services, Inc. (Baxter Southwest) and Darren Casey Interests, Inc. (DCI)    

Since founding DCI (renamed Casey Development, Ltd. in 2008), Mr. Casey has developed over 2,000,000 square feet of office, retail, industrial and multi-family residential properties.  His multi-family projects include two student-oriented multifamily projects in San Marcos, Texas - Hillside Ranch, a 258 unit project built in 1999, and Dakota Ranch, a 188 unit project built in 2001. 

In 1995, Mr. Casey was named to the San Antonio 40 & Under Business Hall of Fame and in 1996 was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young for his work in the Real Estate/Construction field in San Antonio and South Texas. He serves on the McCoy School of Business Advisory Board at Texas State University, and in February 2008 presented a gift of $1.3 million to his alma mater.  In appreciation, Texas State University announced the naming of the Darren B. Casey Athletic Administration Complex. 


 

 

Dennis Haire, Chief Financial Officer

Dennis Haire has been CFO and Controller of Casey Development, Ltd. since November 2003.  He is responsible for all financial and administrative areas of CDL and affiliates, including finance, accounting, income taxes, property tax administration, cash management, insurance, budgeting and human resources. 

From 1997 to 2003, Mr. Haire was CFO of Able Manufacturing, a national manufacturer of steel sectional garage doors, based in Houston, Texas.  From 1994 to 1997, he operated CFO Associates, LLC, a consulting firm which provided financial management services to emerging businesses.  Mr. Haire served as CFO of Everest Fund, Inc. from 1989 to 1994, a real estate investment firm specializing in office building turnarounds in Houston’s post-crash recovery.  Mr. Haire’s experience also includes five years in the auditing department of Deloitte Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte & Touche).

Mr. Haire has a BBA in Accounting with honors from Lamar University and a Masters in Professional Accountancy from the University of Texas at Austin.  He is a licensed CPA in Texas. 


 

 

Gregory L. Gibson, Director-Development Services

Greg Gibson joined Casey Development, Ltd. as Director of Development Services in August 2007.  His primary duties include managing and overseeing all phases of development, including land acquisition, entitlements, site planning, construction, lease administration and financial analysis.  Prior to joining CDL, Mr. Gibson was employed by Birnbaum Property Company from April 2005 to August 2007. 

Mr. Gibson has been involved in the development of over 200,000 square feet of retail, office and mixed-use projects as well as several land infrastructure developments totaling over 200 acres.

Prior to his employment at Birnbaum, Mr. Gibson was employed by SBC Communications Inc. as Director of Corporate Development.  During his seven years at SBC, he participated in and successfully executed numerous transactions totaling over $60 billion; including Cingular Wireless’ $41 billion acquisition of AT&T Wireless.  Mr. Gibson also completed several real estate related transactions, including the monetization of Cingular’s wireless tower portfolio.  Prior to his employment at SBC, Mr. Gibson spent three years with KPMG Peat Marwick in the assurance group as a senior accountant and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr. Gibson earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University, majoring in Accounting, and his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.


 

 

Christopher C. Harness, Managing Director Multi Family Housing

In May 2011, Christopher Harness joined Casey Development, Ltd. as the Managing Director of Multi Family Housing.  Mr. Harness has over thirty years of real estate experience in the multi-family, student housing and commercial fields.  He has acquired and/or developed over $1.3 billion of multi-family/student housing assets and developed over 2.5 million square feet of commercial properties.  Mr. Harness oversees all facets of CDL’s multi-family / student housing business.

Prior to joining CDL, Mr. Harness was the National Practice Leader in charge of Trammell Crow Company’s Higher Education Division.  During his tenure at Trammell Crow Company, he completed six student housing deals, resulting in over 800 units and 1,600 beds with over $110 million in total capital deployed.
        
From 2000 to 2005, Mr. Harness served as the Executive Vice President and Partner of the Student Housing division at FirstWorthing in Dallas, Texas. He successfully completed 22 student housing deals, resulting in over 6,300 units and 17,000 beds, with a total capital deployment of over $625 million.  He was also responsible for the management and operations of 17,000 beds and was instrumental in obtaining the first committed line of credit from FNMA, specifically for student housing.  Prior to joining FirstWorthing, Mr. Harness held various positions with Archstone Smith Communities where his primary role was Vice President of Investments of the Central Region.  In this position, he was responsible in the development and/or acquisitions of over 14,500 units with over $650 million deployed.

Mr. Harness is an alumnus of The University of Texas at Austin.  He is a member of the National Multi-Housing Council’s Student Housing Committee and is a nationally recognized speaker on the student housing industry.


 

 

Alexander Tedford Barclay III, Director-Construction Services

Tedford Barclay joined Casey Development, Ltd. as Vice President-Construction Services in July 2011.  Mr. Barclay manages all construction-related functions for CDL.   His duties include project design, development, and site planning,  land entitlements, cost estimating/budgeting, and construction management.  Mr. Barclay is experienced with many different building systems, construction types and geotechnical applications/foundation design.  He is proficient with Green Building/LEED standards and in delivering projects on time and in budget. 

Prior to joining CDL, Mr. Barclay was self-employed as a Real Estate Development Consultant where he provided development management, design and tenant construction management services to several well known clients, including REATA Real Estate Services, Christus Santa Rosa, Kiolbassa Sausage Company, Bank of America, and San Antonio National Bank.  Mr. Barclay’s notable projects include The Shops at Lincoln Heights, Stone Ridge Market, Alamo Quarry Market, Christus Santa Rosa Hospital, and Arias & Associates Corporate Headquarters.

Previously, Mr. Barclay had a distinguished career as a Licensed Architect.  During this time, he was Architect of Record for several high-profile projects, including the 20-story British Petroleum Office Building in Houston, Texas, the 65-story Transco (now Williams) Tower in Houston, Texas and the $100 million Market Square mixed-use project on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Barclay graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin.  He is a Licensed Architect in the State of Texas and holds licenses in five other states.
